Jacquelyn B. Solomon

Associate Attorney
Jacquelyn B. Solomon, Associate Attorney

Jacquelyn Solomon is an associate attorney in Monument Legal’s Washington, DC office. She represents adults charged with crimes in DC Superior Court and young people in juvenile delinquency matters.

Education

Jacquelyn earned her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law. She served two years as Editor-in-Chief of The Criminal Law Practitioner, leading a staff of more than forty members, and received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award for the highest grade in her course. She received her B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Villanova University, with minors in Criminology and Spanish, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Courtroom Experience

Jacquelyn joins Monument Legal after two years as the law clerk for DC Calendar 1, the criminal traffic calendar at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She served under Magistrate Judges Risa Berkower, Rahkel Bouchet, and David Richter. In that role she managed one of the court’s busiest dockets, prepared each week’s trials and the daily calendar, and researched and drafted orders and findings of fact. Her work covered a wide range of issues that come up in DC criminal cases, including pretrial detention and release, bond review, competency and contempt proceedings, Bado jury demands, discovery disputes, and record sealing and expungement. Clients benefit from her understanding of how cases move through Superior Court from the bench’s point of view, and from her working relationships with courthouse staff, chambers, and prosecutors at the Office of the Attorney General, the same office that prosecutes juvenile cases in the District.

Before her clerkship, Jacquelyn worked as a legal extern at RaquinMercer, LLC in Rockville, Maryland, where she researched and drafted motions in criminal and compassionate release matters. She also served as a judicial intern to Magistrate Judge Gina Simms of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Commitment to Clients

Jacquelyn’s commitment to young people runs throughout her career. As a certified student attorney in the Gender Justice Clinic at American University Washington College of Law, she represented clients in Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, custody, and divorce matters. She handled every part of those cases, from counseling and investigation to drafting, filing, and appearing in court. Her writing has also addressed how the justice system treats juveniles, including an article on whether visitation can do more for juvenile offenders. She brings a client-centered approach to juvenile defense. She works with families to protect a young client’s future, whether through dismissal, diversion, or a fight at trial.
